Classes

Hijos de Maiz offers private clases for individuals and groups, taught completely in Spanish for a full immersion experience.

Monday – Friday, students recieve 4 hours of class everyday, two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.

Students who study more than one week will recieve instruction from different teachers throughout their stay to gain exposure to different styles of teaching and perspectives.

Our school facilities consist of 5 open-air cabanas where students recieve classes. Students are also encouraged to visit our our community library and check out books in Spanish to read in their free time.

Homestay

One of the most special parts of the Hijos de Maiz experience is the homestay.

Students are placed individually with a local family in the community.

You will have a private room with basic accomodations, as well as three meals a day of traditional, homemade Nicaraguan food.

Community life

Outside of class and homework, you’ll have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the activities of daily life.

You can visit your homestay family’s farm, play games outside with the kids, enjoy the natural surroundings or cheer on the community baseball and softball teams on the weekends!

We also encourage our students to get involved in community projects and share their talents with our community.

Cost

The price of a full week of clases + homestay is $250 dollars.

If you stay for more than one week, there is a discounted scale for the additional weeks.

Community Investment

In addition to providing income to our teachers and homestay families, 20% or more of all income is reinvested in community projects.
