  The staples for the inhabitants of El Lagartillo are beans and of course corn, and to a lesser extent rice and sorghum. We grow vegetables. There is usually cuajada (a kind of soft white cheese) and hens-eggs. All of these foods are prepared in many different ways.

We also eat a lot of fruit from the forest, guava, mango, passion-fruit, jocote, papaya.

We drink a lot of black coffee.

We grow most of our food ourselves and every year more of us are cultivating the land organically (close to half at the moment).
